The Universal Church or Global Church

The “Universal Church” consists of all people who put their faith in Christ Jesus as Son of God and Savior of the Word, who trust in him as their Savior, and who are indwelled by the Holy Spirit. This group functions as one organism, like a body in which each part is essential for the work of the whole (1 Cor. 12:12-13). The church began at Pentecost when the Spirit came to indwell believers (Ac. 2); it will end when the church is raptured (1 Cor. 15:51, 52).

The Local Church

The Local Church

The local church is a particular group of believers who assemble together, committed to carrying out the purposes of the church together as a unified body. The work of the church is to be carried out through worship (Jn. 4:23), fellowship (Mt. 22:39), evangelism, education/teaching/training (Mt. 28:18-20), and service (Eph. 4:11-13). All believers are called to the work of the ministry (I Cor. 15:58; Eph. 4:12; Rev. 22:12). We believe that God has given the Church spiritual gifts to accomplish his plan in the world. He has gifted men and women for the purpose of equipping the saints for the work of the ministry (Eph. 4:7-12). He also gives unique and special spiritual abilities to each member of the Body of Christ (Rom. 12:5-8; I Cor. 12:4-31; I Peter 4:10-11). At the moment of spiritual birth every believer receives such a gift or gifts (I Cor. 12:4-13). It is important that every believer discover, develop and employ his or her spiritual gift or gifts for the building up of the Body of Christ and the accomplishment of His work in the world (Rom. 12:3-8; I Peter 4:10-11).

Church Ordinances

Church Ordinances

We believe two ordinances have been given the church—Baptism (Mat.28:19) and the Lord’s Supper (Lk. 22:19-20). We baptize by immersion in water as intended and practiced in the early church (Ac. 8:38-39). Baptism is not necessary for salvation; it is an act of obedience (Lk. 23:39-43). The Lord’s Supper is a memorial ritual wherein believers remember the death of Christ. The memorial naturally did and should lead to oneness and community because of the union enjoyed by believers based on Christ’s sacrifice. Both ordinances signify participation and identity with Christ and his work (Romans 6:3-5; 1 Cor. 10:16-17).

Meet Pastor Bradley and the Linkins family

Bradley Linkins, Pastor

Hi, my name is Bradley, and I’m the pastor here at Life Church. My main job and passion at Life Church is to teach God’s Word each week. I enjoy integrating my studies in theology with an understanding of our culture as I attempt to teach deeply and effectively to those who attend our church. I enjoy interacting with the people who choose to join us each week as we worship together. I live here in West Seattle with my wife Meggan and our two little boys, Braedan and Elliot.

Other Staff:

Here at Life Church everyone is invited to be a part of serving in some capacity at the church, usually not as a paid job. For this reason listing everyone who plays an key part in our ministry would make for a very long list.

What to wear:

One of the most common questions when you’re headed to a new church is “what should I wear?” The simple answer: Wear what you want. The only specific guidance from the Bible regarding clothing is that it should be decent and modest, so anything beyond that is strictly personal preference.

There are some who feel that their choice of what they wear to church is an expression of giving God their best, and so they dress like they would if visiting with someone of great importance. This is a beautiful point of view, and we in no way want to discourage it, so you may see some people who choose to wear their finest. However, it is also true that God accepts and loves us just the way we are, so most of us dress casually, more or less how we would any other day. Chances are most of us “in front” like Pastor Bradley or the worship team will be in jeans. What you wear is completely up to you.

What to expect from a typical Sunday worship service:

The Sunday worship service is a time when we emphasize worshiping and learning about God together as a church family. If you’re able to come a little early, you could grab a cup of coffee or an espresso drink, relax, chat with friends and maybe meet someone new. The service itself will usually start with some singing together, led by our worship band.

Our music style tries to blend modern worship songs with tastes of our rich Christian musical tradition We believe that worship is much more than singing, a particular instrument, or a style of music, so as we have the opportunity, you may see us incorporate all sorts of musical styles and instruments, video clips, drama … the possibilities are endless (if you are wondering, right now our worship team is simply a keyboard, guitar and drums. Hopefully this team will grow and diversify soon!).

At some point we will take up a monetary offering. Meaning, you have the opportunity to demonstrate in a very real, material way the place that God has in your life. Please note: We at Life Church feel very strongly that giving should be something done, as the Bible says, “cheerfully.” At Life Church, giving is a willing act of worship.

Perhaps most important is the message given by Pastor Bradley (or a guest speaker). Our hope for you from this time is that you learn, and deepen your understanding of who God is and how we should relate to Him and to each other.

When the service itself is over, your time and experience at Life Church doesn’t have to end. We encourage you to stick around, grab something to drink and/or snack on at our coffee bar, and interact with the rest of us. Discuss what you thought of the message or the music. Chat with your friends, meet someone new. Being a family is a big part of what church is all about, so simply spending time together is important, too.
